&glosstext=<b>METAPHOR:</b><br><br>When two things are compared without using "like" or "as".<BR><BR> 		"When she ran in the 100m race she set the track on 		fire." <BR><BR>The runner didnt literally set the track on fire but the metaphor helps to convey her great speed as we imagine a trail of fire behind her as she runs.<BR><BR>In Liz Lochheads Daft Annie on Our Village Square, the poet uses a series of metaphors to make her description of the character more surprising and colourful:<br><br>		Annie...<br>		with your <b>screw loose</b><br>			your crazy <b>tick-tock</b> in the head<br>			your lurching <b>pendulum</b><br>							slightly unbalanced...<BR><BR>In these lines the poet uses two metaphors to describe Annies mind: firstly shes described as having a screw loose and secondly as having a clock in her head (extended by the image of an unbalanced pendulum).
